Rita Borbély

About Us

My name is Rita Borbély – I am a qualified food engineer, fisheries engineer, nature educator, and managing director of Borbély Fish Farm.

These seemingly separate fields come together in a single shared mission. They combine everything the heritage I received from my parents means to me: a love of fish, the production of premium quality products, and respect, protection, and love for nature.

Our Story

Our company's history began in 1982, when my father, Gyula Borbély, started working as a division manager at what is now our site. His outstanding achievements in fry rearing also caught the attention of the international profession: between 1987 and 1990, at the request of the UN FAO (the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), he worked in Brazil at the DNOCS Pentecoste Fisheries Research Institute, developing breeding and rearing technologies aimed at easing the region's food supply problems.

After returning home, in 1991 he and my grandfather founded the predecessor of today's Jászkiséri Halas Ltd. (SILURUS Bt.), and then purchased the Jászkisér pond farm in 1994.

Family Unity and Innovation

The key to our success has, from the very beginning, lain in family unity. Without my mother's precise financial management and her dedication to gastronomy, we would not be where we are today. With her innovative, delicious fish recipes, she has changed the perspective of hundreds of visitors on eating fish, dispelling their misconceptions in an instant.

My father was among the first to recognize the connection between multifunctional fish farming, aquaculture, and rural tourism, creating a nationally known and popular angling empire.

Pioneering Research & Development (R&D)

Over his 42 years in the fisheries profession, my father has consistently been at the forefront of development. Working together with the most renowned domestic research institutes (University of Debrecen, MATE/Szent István University, HAKI), he integrated technologies into everyday production such as:

  • Developing domestic production technology for new species (channel catfish, hybrid striped bass, barramundi).
  • Developing modern fish farming systems (pond recirculation, "Pond within a Pond" systems).
  • Unique machine developments (specialized fish grading and feed distribution systems, fish grading cart).

Taking Over the Baton

Growing up in this environment, my career choice was never in question. After completing my university studies, I returned to the family pond farm: I have carried forward the traditions and modernization of Borbély Fish Farm as site manager since 2018, and as managing director since 2024.
